Optical and electrical properties of 2D titanium and molybdenum carbide (MXenes) thin films

Laboratory: PPRIME Institute, Department: D1-PMM, Team: PPNA

ED SIMME Doctoral School proposes the following thesis subject:

Title of the thesis : Optical and electrical properties of 2D titanium and molybdenum carbide (MXenes) thin films

This project would be under the supervision of : Vincent Mauchamp, D1-PMM department of PPRIME Institute at Universite de Poitiers.

Co-supervisor(s) : Simon Hurand /

Starting date: 10/2022

Thesis presentation:
MXenes, of general formula Mn+1XnTx, are one of the most vast and recent families among 2D materials, and have a great potential for both fundamental research and applications, especially in electronics. In particular, it is possible to induce gradual substitution of titanium by molybdenum on the M site of MXenes. This should allow switching from a metallic behavior to a semi-conducting one with n or p doping. The goal of this PhD project is to synthesize and prepare thin films of Mo-Ti based MXenes, and to characterize their optical and electrical properties, in order to identify their potential for optoelectronics applications such as transparent conducting films, flexible electronics or thermoelectric generators.
